Thirty things worth ordering for less than the price of lunch, and the cheapest way to find out whether your purchasing agent is any good before you trust it with a real order.
Under ¥50 (roughly $7, or €6.50) is the band where Chinese marketplaces stop resembling anything you can buy at home. There is no distributor, no importer and usually no brand layer, so the number on the listing sits close to the factory's wholesale sheet plus a few yuan of margin. The catch is that freight does not scale down with the item. A parcel to Western Europe costs somewhere around ¥42 per chargeable kilo plus about ¥18 of handling, so a ¥39 purchase can easily arrive having cost ¥75. Sub-¥50 buying only works as part of something bigger.
Good and bad separate on material spec, and down here the spec is exactly where corners get cut. A ¥45 cotton tee is almost always 160-180gsm single jersey that goes translucent after a dozen washes; the 240-280gsm version of the same shape starts nearer ¥90. A ¥35 stainless chain is usually 201-grade, which surface-rusts inside a season; 304 is acceptable, 316L is what you want against skin. Sellers who publish a real gram weight, a gsm figure or a wall thickness in millimetres are signalling they have nothing to hide. Listings carrying only adjectives are the ones to skip.
Before you order, read the review count rather than the score. A 4.9 across eleven reviews means nothing; 4.5 across four hundred means the thing is consistent. Then look at the price history: an item sitting at ¥49 that traded at ¥28 six months ago is riding a trend, and trend pricing on cheap goods usually means the factory changed the photographs and nothing else. Last, read the dimensions in centimetres instead of the model shot. At this price the most common disappointment is scale: the lamp turns out to be 11cm tall, the mug holds 180ml.
The mistake nearly everyone makes is treating a ¥30 item as risk-free. The item is cheap; the ¥40-60 of chargeable freight bolted to it is not. Which is precisely why this band makes the best test order you will ever place. Pick four to six small things, land somewhere around 600-900g, and for roughly ¥250 all-in you will learn whether your purchasing agent photographs every item on arrival, how long it stores parcels for free, whether it strips retail boxes during repack, and how it fills in a customs declaration. That is a cheap answer to an expensive question.

Sizing first, because it causes more returns than quality ever does. Almost nothing in this band is cut to Western measurements. Lay a garment you already own flat, measure chest width and body length in centimetres, and match those numbers against the listing's own size table rather than the letter on the label. Where no table exists, assume a full size down from what you normally take. For everything else the equivalent discipline is holding a ruler against your desk before you commit: a 24cm tray and a 34cm tray photograph identically.
On freight: chargeable weight is the greater of actual and volumetric weight, and carriers round up to the next 100g. That makes dense little objects (a steel keyring, a pen set, a cable roll) extraordinarily efficient passengers, and makes anything bulky-but-light an expensive one. Build a parcel around two or three dense sub-¥50 buys per kilo of whatever heavier item you actually wanted, and ask your purchasing agent to remove retail packaging during repack. On a small parcel a stack of cardboard boxes can account for 15% of the chargeable weight.
Spend more when there is a motor, a battery, a mechanical movement or a load-bearing seam involved. Below ¥50 all four are being built down to a number, and a failure costs you the freight a second time. The honest caveat: the miss rate down here is real. Expect roughly one item in ten to be visibly worse than its photographs, and treat that as the price of the band rather than an argument against it. Filtering for listings with buyer photos attached improves that ratio sharply.

On its own, no. A single 300g item to Europe or North America carries roughly ¥18-20 of parcel handling plus ¥42-48 per chargeable kilo, so the freight can exceed the item cost several times over. Sub-¥50 items make sense only inside a consolidated parcel where the fixed costs are already being paid by something else.
Four to six, totalling 600-900g. That is enough for a purchasing agent to demonstrate QC photography, repacking and consolidation without exposing you to more than about ¥250 all-in. It also produces a real shipping invoice you can compare against other agents before you place a larger order.
Practically speaking, no international warranty exists. Marketplace sellers offer domestic Chinese returns that are impractical once a parcel has left the country. Your genuine protection is the purchasing agent's QC step: most will photograph the item on arrival at the warehouse and will raise a dispute with the seller if it is visibly wrong or damaged, before it ever ships to you.
Stationery, cable and desk organisation, socks and basic knit accessories, small kitchen and bathroom goods, phone and laptop accessories, and simple steel or titanium carry items. These are dense, hard to get badly wrong, and cheap to ship. Apparel, footwear and anything electrical are weakest at this price because the specification cuts land where you notice them.
It depends entirely on your destination, and rules change frequently. Many countries now assess duty and import VAT on low-value consignments regardless of size, often collected by the carrier alongside a handling fee. Assume the declared value of the whole consolidated parcel is what matters, not the price of any single item inside it, and check your own country's current threshold before ordering.
